OUR BEGINNINGS
Naughty Doggy's origins can be traced back to the transformation of a single dog's life. This terrier mix initially entered my home as a rescue, yet quickly proved to be quite the handful. What began as an attempt at offering refuge turned into an unintended challenge.
In pursuit of resolution, training emerged as the sole viable path forward. However, it wasn't a one-size-fits-all approach that could rectify the situation. Ziggy, this spirited terrier mix, encountered the guidance of three trainers before discovering the approach that resonated most effectively. While training often serves as the solution to many difficulties faced by dog owners, pinpointing the right method can prove elusive. I can personally attest to this from my own experience as a dog owner.
Driven by this understanding, Naughty Doggy was conceived with a purpose – to extend a helping hand to fellow dog owners navigating similar trials. Just as I desired assistance during my journey, I aspire to be that guiding presence for others. The goal is to impart the right knowledge and tools, enabling every owner to foster a rewarding and harmonious relationship with their canine companions.

Get to know the
trainer, Ashley
Master Trainer Ashley Engelhart
Since 2014, Ashley has held the distinction of being a certified dog trainer. Her journey into this field was preceded by seven years of invaluable experience as a certified veterinary assistant, lead kennel technician, and veterinary technician. Her academic pursuits culminated in a degree in Veterinary Science and Technology, specializing in both small and large animals, which she attained in 2012.
Ashley's profound passion for dog training propelled her to join a prominent nationwide dog training company. Her dedication and expertise enabled her to rapidly ascend the ranks, culminating in her appointment as Regional Director in 2020. Having honed her skills through training over 550 dogs and counting, Ashley experienced a significant realization. Her true calling lay in establishing a business that revolved around catering to each individual dog's unique needs, while simultaneously addressing the desires of the owner.
With two furry companions of her own, Ashley's clients are privileged to reap the benefits of her training programs that incorporate her own dogs. From fostering socialization to navigating distractions, her canines serve as living examples, allowing owners to witness the desired outcomes firsthand. Ashley's unwavering commitment to her craft is evident in her journey, and she continues to strive to enhance the lives of both dogs and their owners through personalized and effective training approaches.
The Demonstration Dog, Pearl Jam
Meet Pearl Jam, Ashley's very first pure-bred dog, who's lovingly named after a renowned 90s grunge band. Drawing inspiration from Eddie Vedder, the lead vocalist, Pearl Jam mirrors the band's vocal and opinionated essence. Much like a performer on stage, Pearl Jam delights in her own unique vocal stylings – from humming and whistling to soulful moans. Those fortunate enough to cross paths with her are treated to impromptu mini Pearl Jam concerts, free of charge.
Pearl, a spirited wirehaired pointing griffon hailing from the sporting group, holds a special place in Ashley's heart. This breed is particularly celebrated within the bird hunting community, which aligns with their innate pointing instincts. Interestingly, Pearl is one of eight puppies from her litter, each displaying exceptional hunting prowess – except for Pearl Jam herself, who is deemed "gun-shy." Ashley's conviction that Pearl was purposefully brought into her life is deeply rooted. While Ashley wasn't initially seeking a hunting dog, she believes that Pearl's arrival was a divine intervention, bringing with her a much-needed companion with an irresistible charisma.
Pearl's repertoire of hobbies mirrors her vivacious personality – savoring meals, forging new friendships with fellow pups, relishing cuddle sessions, showcasing her vocal talents, and indulging in the captivating pastime of bird watching. Pearl Jam embodies a harmonious blend of charm and character that continues to enrich Ashley's life.
